About

TAHA Engineering Tools is a free collection of engineering calculators, built as part of TAHA Knowledge Lab — an educational project for students, engineers, technicians and makers.

Why this site exists

Many online calculators give you a number and nothing else. You cannot see the formula, the units are unclear, and there is no way to check the answer. That is not good enough for engineering work, and it does not help anyone learn.

Every tool on TAHA Engineering Tools shows:

  • the formula it uses, written out in full;
  • a worked example you can check with a hand calculator;
  • the units, with metric (SI) by default and imperial where it is used;
  • the assumptions and limits of the calculation.

Who is behind it

TAHA Engineering Tools is created by an industrial and manufacturing engineer who teaches at college level. The aim is to build practical tools for real engineering problems — first for production and manufacturing, mechanical and material weight work, then for electrical, civil and computing topics.

How the calculators are checked

Each calculator has automated tests. The expected answers are worked out independently by hand or taken from published tables (for example, steel pipe weights from ASME B36.10M), and the website is not published unless all tests pass. If you find a mistake, please tell us — corrections are fixed and recorded.

What these tools are not

The calculators are for learning, checking and estimating. They do not replace engineering design to the applicable codes, or approval by a qualified professional. Please read the engineering disclaimer.
