Engineering Disclaimer
The calculators on this website are for education, checking and preliminary estimating only. They are not a substitute for engineering design carried out to the applicable codes, standards and regulations, or for review and approval by a qualified professional.
Safety-critical work
Do not rely on results from this website alone for:
- structural design of buildings, foundations, beams, columns or lifting equipment;
- pressure vessels, piping and other pressurised systems;
- electrical installations, cable sizing, protective devices and earthing;
- lifting operations, rigging and load handling;
- any application where an error could cause injury, death, damage or financial loss.
These require the codes in force where you work, verified material data, appropriate safety factors and the judgement of a competent engineer.
Accuracy and assumptions
Every result is an estimate, calculated only from the values you enter and the assumptions stated on that calculator’s page. If an input is wrong, or a stated assumption does not match your real situation, the result will be wrong too.
Each calculator lists its formula, its assumptions and its limits. Results are only as good as the inputs and the assumptions behind them. Material properties shown (for example densities) are typical published values and may differ from your actual material — always check supplier or certificate data.
No calculator on this website guarantees compliance with any engineering code, standard or regulation. Where a standard is mentioned, it is given as a reference for the formula or data, not as a statement that the result satisfies that standard.
Any engineering decision that affects safety must be checked and approved by a suitably qualified professional, using the codes in force where the work is done.
Units and rounding
Results are calculated at full precision and rounded only for display. Small differences from other sources can come from rounding, different constants, or different definitions (for example, different types of horsepower or ton).
Reporting errors
If you believe a calculation is wrong, please contact us. Confirmed errors are corrected as soon as possible and recorded in the change log.
